Administrative services
NBPA has a complete administrative services package for self-funded plans, with flexibility built in so that you can choose only those services you require. For your convenience, we've broken our service packages into five sections. If you have any questions about these services, please feel free to contact us for assistance.
- Initial Implementation: We coordinate the transition from your current plan, secure insurance and reinsurance coverage and set up a banking plan to pay claims. We also implement additional coverage options you may have chosen and set up all group member documents.
- Monthly Services: Claims are processed within 10 working days, and an Explanation of Benefits form is prepared for those claims. We distribute claims checks, prepare detailed billing for all plan costs, and provide professional consultation services for non-routine and disputed claims. Clients and brokers also receive loss ratio reports, along with specialized reports to meet specific needs.
- Year-end Reporting: Once the benefit year is complete, NBPA provides reports for all aspects of the plan, as well as preparing and filing Form 1099, and providing Schedule A information for form 5500 completion. We also review plan design and utilization, and recommend any plan changes.
- Custom Reporting: To help clients track plan activity, NBPA can produce reports specifically designed to measure performance. Some of the most common reports include individual claims listings, top providers and turn-around time.
Stop-loss coverage
When a large claim occurs in a self-funded plan, the plan may be at risk of being depleted. Stop-loss coverage from a reinsurance carrier limits the loss due to a catastrophic claim, while maintaining a plan's ability to continue coverage for the group. NBPA has several options for stop-loss coverage, even allowing for special packages for certain individuals in your employee pool.
Group Life Insurance
Group life insurance is a very popular benefit with employees. NBPA arranges coverage for your group at affordable rates, which offers employees and their families an extra security blanket. In addition, for employees who need extra coverage, voluntary life is a benefit you can offer at little or no cost to the employer, ensuring employees are covered to their satisfaction.
Group Dental
Dental coverage for employees is one of the more popular group benefits an employer can add for employees. For very little cost per employee, you can add a dental plan that will give your employees immediate benefits. NBPA can develop a plan that offers employees a high-value/low-cost benefit that is also cost-effective for the employer.
Short-Term Disability & Long-Term Disability
When an employee is not able to work because of an injury, disability insurance can be a lifesaver. NBPA can design and implement short-term disability coverage that protects both the employee and employer, while providing the employee with peace of mind while they recuperate from a disabling injury.
Flexible Benefits
Flexible benefits plans give employees the opportunity to choose from a menu of taxable and non-taxable benefits provided by the employer sponsoring the plan. Salary reductions for these benefits are deducted automatically from the employee's paycheck each pay period before federal, state, Social Security and Medicare taxes are calculated. Flexible benefits plans consist of two main components: flexible spending accounts and premium conversion.
NBPA also offers groups the option of the flexible benefits debit card. These cards are used just like credit cards to pay for approved medical expenditures. They are credited with the amount of money an employee chooses to have deducted for flexible benefits. The employee can use it until their flex funds are exhausted.
COBRA
NBPA's COBRA Administration provides personalized, responsive and flexible service through an experienced administrator assigned to your account. This ensures COBRA is administered consistently at all of your office locations.
Collected premiums are remitted directly to the employer. NBPA also handles all calls from former employees, doctors, pharmacies, medical facilities and government offices-calls that other administrators refer back to you.
Legal compliance is also greatly simplified when you contract with NBPA for COBRA administration. We take care of all legal compliance issues, allowing you to avoid costly penalties for compliance failures. Fines for such failures reach $110/day, per individual, per incident, and that doesn't include legal fees if the courts become involved.
HIPAA
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is designed to protect the personal health information of all individuals. To do so requires keeping up with new regulations and strong security measures. NBPA works with you to prepare and maintain the proper policies, procedures and from necessary to keep your plan in compliance with all HIPAA regulations.
